Please specify the correct number of guests on all bookings.

American Express, Union Pay and Diners Club will incur an additional non-refundable 2.80% surcharge on any transaction. Visa and Mastercard debit cards incur a 1.10% surcharge.

Exchange Rate / Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in Australian dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations, there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 14 working days depending on the renter’s Financial Institution.

Cancellation Policy
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
If cancelled 93+ days prior to pick up. No Fee

Booking Amendments
If you wish to make any changes to your booking (including a voluntary downgrade) the booking will be calculated by using either the original flex rate or the flex rate that is valid at the time of the booking change, depending on whichever rate is higher. There are no exceptions to this rule.  The following situations are classified as booking alterations:
- Change of date for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change of location (depot) for vehicle pick-up or drop-off
- Change of vehicle category
- Name change
- Change of rate scheme including special rates If the rate scheme or RV category is changed, this is considered a new booking and cancellation fees may apply to the original booking.

If an amendment is made to the rental dates within 17 days of collection, no refund will be made if the length of hire is shortened (that is; the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked). A relocation fee may apply if the collection or return location is amended within 17 days of vehicle pick up or if notification occurs during the hire.

Booking Amendment Fee
The first change is at no charge. The first charge may involve several aspects of the reservation. The second and subsequent changes are at AU$25 per aspect, per change.

Rental Extension
If the guest wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Hippie Camper Reservations. This is subject to availability. The extra cost of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at a Hippie Camper Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension.

Whilst on hire if you decide to extend your rental duration (changing the drop-off date) by 2 days the same flex rate is used that applied on the day when you made your original booking.  If you extend by 3 days or more, the booking change rule applies as outlined above.

Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter being charged double the daily applicable rental rate.

Consecutive Hippie Campervan rentals can be combined to qualify for a long-term discount rate. Rentals in Australia, New Zealand and the United States of America on Star RV, Apollo, Cheapa Campa and Hippie Camper can be combined to obtain a long-term discount rate, providing travel is within a 3 month period.  If drop off of a vehicle and pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one-way fee and minimum rental period conditions. This discount does not apply to completed bookings.

Travel Restrictions
The Hippie Camper can only be driven on sealed/bitumen roads or well-maintained access roads less than 12 kilometres long to recognised campgrounds.
The Hippie Camper is allowed to travel North of the Daintree River as long as permission is obtained from Hippie Camper prior to travel.
The Hippie Camper is not allowed to travel in Tasmania,  Moreton Island, Fraser Island or Northern Territory. Hippie Camper reserves the right at its sole discretion to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, and the distance to nominated destinations in relation to the length of the rental period.

Change of Drop Off Destination
If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from Hippie Camper Reservations. Subject to the change being approved, an additional minimum charge of AU$500 will apply.

Although we run late model vehicles, it may happen that small repairs are required.  Repairs up to $100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed unless the damage is caused by the renter.  For amounts over $100, Hippie Camper will need to be informed in advance.  All vehicles are enrolled in the Australian Automobile Association and 24hr emergency roadside assistance is available.

Holiday Disruption Coverage
Should the hirer’s motorhome holiday be disrupted by a mechanical breakdown as defined below (which does not extend to accident or damages caused by the renter), for more than 12 working hours after reporting to Hippie Camper, the renter will be reimbursed up to a maximum of the gross daily rental rate for each day affected until the problem is rectified. Failure of mechanical and accessories which includes living cabin air conditioner, water pump, shower/toilet, refrigerator, stove/grill must be assessed by a branch or authorised repairer. Reimbursement is only possible when Hippie Camper has been
contacted to rectify the problem and the hirer cooperates to do so. Failure to notify Hippie Camper acknowledges that the issues is of such a minor nature that the hirer makes no claim for loss of time in respect of their rental. Defects and repairs of Wi-Fi, travel devices, radio, TV, CD or DVD player, awning, cruise control, etc. are not considered mechanical breakdowns and are excluded from Holiday Disruption Coverage.

The following conditions results in the compromised performance of accessories and as such Hippie Camper will not be held liable for financial compensation:

Hippie Camper offers guests the option of purchasing our Toll Package for $39 which gives guests a $50 ‘toll credit’. When travelling through toll ways the credit will be used up to the value of $50. Once $50 is exceeded, another toll package of $39 will be automatically charged to the guest’s credit card. (a .75c registration matching fee applies within the $50 credit).

Change Of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, the supplier reserves the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to a refund.

Vehicle Category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.

Voluntary Downgrade
Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked they will not be entitled to any refund.

Limit of Liability
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter, the supplier's liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period.

Important
The supplier reserves the right to refuse any rental at its discretion.

Animals
We believe fur friends can only make a road trip better and both service animals and pet dogs are allowed to travel in our RVs with written permission from Hippie at time of booking. There is a $200 pet service fee for each pet, this excludes service animals. Our full policy can be viewed on the Hippie website

Smoking
Smoking is not allowed in the supplier's vehicles.

PROTECTION PACKAGE
Personal Injury
The Vehicle has third party insurance cover. It is likely that any other vehicle involved in an accident also has third party insurance cover. Depending on the circumstances of the accident, the renter may be entitled to claim for their personal injury against the third party insurance of the party responsible for the accident. The extent of such third party insurance varies in different States and Territories and Hippie Camper strongly recommends that all passengers take out their own Personal Injury Travel Insurance.

If the renter is responsible for the accident the Vehicle’s third party insurance should cover the renter for the liability except where the renter has committed a breach of the Vehicle’s third party insurance, e.g. drink driving.

Property Damage
The Vehicle is insured for damage to it or damage to the property of a third party. However, the renter is responsible up to the amount of the applicable Liability for the cost of such damage to third party property, or to the rented Vehicle. The renter is also responsible for the cost of demurrage for the period the Vehicle is unavailable due to repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability, an administration fee of $75 will be charged per claim.

The Liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident is reported to Hippie Camper, not at the completion of the rental Period. Hippie Camper reserves the right to charge the renter for any vehicle damage including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle.

The below Reduction Options do not include windscreen and tyre damage (renter is responsible for windscreen and tyre damage at all times).

  Cost Per Day Bond Liability
Standard Liability Included AU$3000 AU$3000
Liability Reduction Option
(Included in the Value Pack)
AU$22*
(max charge AU$1,100 i.e.
50-day rentals)
AU$100 AU$0

*The minimum amount payable for each reduction option per rental segment will be based on the minimum rental period applicable for your rental.

Bond
To keep this simple - the bond payment will depend on the liability option chosen. If the guest chooses to take ‘The Low Road’ the total bond will be debited to the Credit or Debit card immediately. When a Visa or MasterCard Debit card is used a 1.10% fee will apply, when a Visa or MasterCard Credit card is used a 1.69% fee will apply or when an Amex, Diners or Union Pay is used a 2.80% fee will apply.

If the guest chooses to ‘Take the High Road’ the Bond is payable to Hippie by an open signed credit card imprint with an authorisation for $100. The credit card holder must be present to sign for the Bond when they pick-up the RV and is liable for any damage to the RV. The Bond, and associated fees when a Visa or MasterCard is used, is fully refundable provided terms are met. The RV simply needs to be returned on time and full of fuel to the Hippie branch location booked.

Credit card refunds including bond refunds can take up to 14 working days depending on the guest’s financial institution. If there is damage to the RV on its return or any other terms of the rental contract have not been met, the Bond will be used to cover the cost up to the amount of the relevant Liability.

If the terms of the Rental Contract are not met and the Bond is not sufficient enough to cover the damage, extra costs will be charged. If a guest is continuing on with another Hippie RV booking, the Bond can be transferred to the next booking within Australia.

Full Responsibility
At all times the renter is responsible for:
•  Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have been breached.
•  Damage caused by negligence.
•  Damage caused to the Vehicle in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water.
•  Damage caused due to a single vehicle roll over.
•  Damage caused to tyres and Windscreen.
•  Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
•  Damage caused to the Vehicle by the renter’s wilful conduct.
•  Damage caused to the Vehicle when using the Vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
•  Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
•  Damage to the awning, overhead or underbody of the Vehicle.

Booking Alterations
We understand that sometimes plans change. If this is the case, any changes made to a booking will be calculated by using the higher one of two rates, either the original Flex Rate or the Flex Rate current at the time of booking alteration. The following are considered as a booking alteration:

  • Change of name
  • Change to pick-up or drop-off dates
  • Change pick-up or drop-off branch location
  • Change of RV category
  • Change of rate scheme including special rates

If the rate scheme or RV category is changed, this is considered a new booking and cancellation fees may apply to the original booking.

If there are any last-minute alternations made within 17 days of pick-up, we will be happy to accommodate these depending on availability. However due to the short notice if the holiday is shortened, the number of days originally booked will be charged.
If the pick-up or drop-off location is altered within 17 days of pick up, a change of location fee may also apply.

Change to the Drop-Off Location after Pick-Up

To secure an extension, the extra costs (calculated on the current rate of the day), will need to be paid by credit card inclusive of all taxes and surcharges, either over the phone or at a Hippie Branch at the time of extension. Any long-term discounts in place will continue to apply to the booking.

We will always do our best to accommodate any extensions however it is subject to vehicle availability.

Change of RV
We understand guests’ needs are different and therefore our RVs can be requested by category, however not by make or model. We always do our best to accommodate requests, however should the RV booked be unavailable due to unforeseen circumstances, we will substitute the booked RV with an alternative available RV at time of pick-up, at no extra cost. Any changes made to the booked RV and agreed to by the guest do not entitle the guest to a refund.

RV Introduction and Show Through
On pick-up, our staff provide a thorough RV show through with all the necessary information guests need to know about the interior and exterior features of their RV. This ensures guests are comfortable and confident with their RV before they start their road trip.

To ensure guests have a thorough RV show through before starting their adventure, they will need to pick up their RV from the branch by 4pm.

Booking Duration
An RV holiday allows guests to travel at their own pace. To ensure our guests get the most of their road trip a minimum five-day booking applies when pick-up and drop-off is from the same branch location. Higher minimum rental days apply for all brands as follows and are subject to change.

Returning the RV
The RV is a home away from home and for comfort, we recommend it’s kept tidy throughout the road trip. The RVs need to be returned to the branch as they were taken, with the interior cleaned, toilet cassette (where applicable) and holding tanks emptied. The RV exterior does not require cleaning unless it’s covered with excessive dirt or mud, making it difficult for our team to see its return condition.

Kilometres
For the safety of guests please don’t underestimate the time it will take to get from one point to another. While our 2WD RVs include unlimited kilometres, we recommend travelling a maximum of 300 kilometres per day or the equivalent of 4-5 hours driving. We encourage our guests to take a break from driving at least every 2 hours.

Our 4WD rates include 300 kilometres per day, however should a little more adventure be needed, 500 kilometre packages are available before or at time of pick-up for $188.00. If the distance travelled is a little longer, any excess kilometres will be charged at $0.40 per kilometre payable on return.

Payment at Branches
For security reasons, we accept credit card and debit card for charges paid on RV pick-up and drop-off. We do not accept cash at our branches. The Bond is payable at pick-up by credit card or debit card and cannot be paid with a pre-paid credit card.

Credit Cards
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners Club and Union Pay. The following fees apply for the rental and any additional products (irrespective of chosen account e.g. savings, credit, etc.):

  Rental / Extras
Visa debit card / MasterCard debit card 1.10%

Failure of mechanical and accessories which includes living cabin air conditioner, water pump, shower/toilet, refrigerator, stove/grill must be assessed by a branch or authorised repairer. Reimbursement is only possible when Hippie Camper has been

The renter is also responsible for the cost of the daily rate for the period the vehicle is being repaired. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per vehicle.

The Liability is applicable regardless of who is at fault and must be paid at the time the accident is reported to Hippie Camper, not at the completion of the rental Period. Hippie Camper reserves the right to charge the renter for any vehicle damage including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle.

Liability Options
For peace of mind on the road we offer a range of Liability Options for guests.  Guests can choose between the following options:

  • ‘Low Road’ – our most basic level of liability cover.
  • ‘High Road’ – our highest cover option.

The amount payable for each Liability Option is based on the number of days of hire minimum rental period applicable for each RV or total days of the RV booking. The maximum charge for Liability Options is 50 days per rental segment.

Bond
The Bond payment will depend on the Liability Option chosen. If the guest chooses to take ‘The Low Road’ the total Bond will be debited to the credit or debit card immediately.

If the guest chooses to take ‘The High Road’ the Bond is payable to Hippie by an open signed credit card imprint with an authorisation for $250 / $500. The credit card holder must be present to sign for the Bond when they pick-up the RV and is liable for any damage to the RV.

The Bond is fully refundable provided terms are met. The RV simply needs to be returned on time and full of fuel and with the toilet cassette and grey water tank emptied to the Hippie branch location booked. Credit card refunds (including Bond refunds) can take up to 21 working days depending on the guest’s financial institution.

  • Damage caused where the terms of Rental Contract have not been met by the guest (other than when a third-party damage admits fault and provides full contact and licence details).
  • Damage caused by negligence and/or wilful conduct.
  • Damage caused to the RV in any way by part or total water submersion or salt water. It’s true, our vehicles can’t swim.
  • Damage caused to tyres and windscreen.
  • Damage caused to the RV when using the RV in contravention of any legislation or regulation controlling vehicular traffic.
  • Damage and associated costs with recovery of a bogged vehicle.
  • Damage or loss caused to any personal belongings.
  • Damage caused due to use of incorrect or contaminated fuel.
  • Damage to the slide out of the RV.
  • Damage to the undercarriage or overhead of the RV.
  • Damage to the awning or roof top tent of the RV
  • Our RVs are equipped with a tracking device. Hippie reserves the right to send warnings to guests that are driving in contradiction to the terms and conditions, or exceeding the speed limits. Guests that continuously ignore the warnings may be subject to a penalty fee of $300 charged on each occasion identified.
